Processing systems involve one or more pieces of equipment that fundamentally change a product in one way or another. Some examples would be a peanut shelling plant or an almond huller/sheller. In both cases, the incoming product is physically changed and is in a different form than the resulting output. In many of these systems, separation equipment is used to aid in the process taking place. For instance, a gravity separator removes the in-shell peanuts from the shelled peanuts, and a shaker removes the in-hull and in-shell almonds from the meats. Processing systems are typically the most complex and involve many pieces of equipment of different types. Nearly all are custom designed for a very specific purpose.
